You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet!

Vous N’avez Encore Rien Vu
de Alain Resnais

As its title suggests, at age ninety, master French filmmaker Alain Resnais (Hiroshima Mon Amour) is indeed still full of surprises. The “glowingly atmospheric” You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet saw Resnais walk La Croisette once again after being selected in the official competition of the Cannes International Film Festival 2012.

From beyond the grave, celebrated playwright Antoine d’Anthac (played by the superb Denis Podalydès) gathers together all his friends who have appeared over the years in his play Eurydice. These actors watch a recording of the work performed by a young acting company, La Compagnie de la Colombe. Do love, life, death and love after death still have any place on a theatre stage? It’s up to them to decide. And the surprises have only just begun…

You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet is based on French playwright Jean Anouilh’s play Eurydice, which in turn is based on the classic Greek legend of Orpheus. Alongside spectacular cinematography by Éric Gautier (On The Road), the film also features “the who’s-who of French acting royalty” including The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’s Mathieu Almaric and César-winner Sabine Azéma, who all play themselves in the story.
