“A wacky reimagination of the Stevenson novel.” Hollywood Reporter

Synopsis

Madame Géquil is a timid and eccentric teacher despised by her colleagues and students. On a stormy night, she is struck by lightning and faints. When she wakes up, she feels decidedly different, filled with a new, mysterious and dangerous energy…
Will Madame Géquil manage to keep the powerful and vindicative Madame Hyde contained?

Reinterpreting Robert L. Stevenson’s literary classic The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Serge Bozon retells the tale of split identities in a peculiar way.
This deadpan comedy is a clever mix of genres: borrowing from the inspirational-teacher movie, reusing the visual identity of 1980s pastel-coloured science fiction films and gothic novels. By adding a biting touch of contemporary social commentary to his witty feature, Bozon creates a highly original narrative and filmic universe.
Romain Duris plays the high school’s director with outlandish perfection. Isabelle Huppert excels as the beleaguered teacher in a versatile performance, swaying between fragility and maliciousness. Luminous, eccentric, and occasionally hilarious as Mrs. Hyde, Huppert was deservedly awarded the Leopard for Best Actress at the 2017 Locarno International Film Festival. This 2018 Closing Night film is undoubtedly a must see!
