A twist of fate leaves an unlucky accountant in an intoxicating love triangle in the new film from Farewell My Queen’s celebrated director, Benoît Jacquot.
One night in a provincial French city, Marc (Romantics Anonymous’ Benoît Poelvoorde) meets Sylvie (Charlotte Gainsbourg, also appearing at the Festival in Samba) after missing his train back to Paris. They wander through the streets until morning, talking about everything except themselves, in a rare, almost choreographed, harmony. Marc takes the first train back, and sets a date with Sylvie in Paris a few days later. They know nothing about each other, but this is much more than a game. It’s the way it has to be. Sylvie keeps the date. Misfortune befalls Marc, and he cannot. He searches for her and ends up finding someone else. Sophie.
He does not know that Sophie is Sylvie’s sister. Marc and Sylvie meet again. Their unparalleled rapport still exists… but it is too late.
3 Hearts features an outstanding cast of some of France’s most famous actors and showcases “a filmmaker at the height of his powers.” An eerie score from Bruno Coulais, of Les Choristes fame, adds to the intensity of the mysterious love story.
